Check our reasons why it's time to get on your bike!

Cycling has never been so trendy, and not just as a form of fitness but as a cheap and healthy way to get around too. Things are getting better and better for cyclists these days so whether you favour getting around by public transport, Ubers, or your own car it could be time to start pedalling instead!

There are plenty of reasons that you should be embracing the city cycle trend now; there are no signs of it disappearing anytime soon so you might as well start sooner rather than later! To help convince (or help you convince somebody else!) that cycling is the way forward, here are some of our favourite arguments for it.

5. Cycle lanes are improving

5. Cycle lanes are improving

The government and within that local councils are beginning to see that more cycling lanes and safer cycling routes can only be a good thing for their larger towns and cities. More and more of them are being implemented meaning that it has never been so easy to get from A to B by bike!

4. Kind to the environment

4. Kind to the environment

Cycling is obviously far better for the environment than cars are, and even public transport does come with its price to nature. With a bike, you produce zero admissions, don’t impact the roads much and there is pretty much no noise pollution either (we’re not counting a bike bell here!). For the ecological transport choice when you’re in the city, pick cycling, after all it is a lot quicker than the other eco option of walking!

3. Good for your body

3. Good for your body

Maybe you find it difficult to squeeze in some daily exercise in between your work and other commitments. But thanks to a bike, you can not only enjoy convenient transport, but you can also get in a workout too. You don’t have to outfit yourself in lycra from head to toe to get your heart rate pumping on a bike, and even just a half hour cycle will let you get out there in the fresh air and enjoy some low impact exercise. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be fit, cycling is one activity that anybody can get into.

2. Low maintenance

2. Low maintenance

You don’t have to be a mechanical mastermind to look after your bike and even if you do find yourself with a flat tyre or a chain that’s come off, you can easily watch them. Bike workshops are springing up all over the place, and you can always check out a video tutorial online if you’re unsure about how to do something. Aside from pumping the wheels once in a while, bikes really are low maintenance especially when you compare it to running a car.

1. It’s cheap

1. It’s cheap

And probably most people’s number one reason for loving cycling in the city is the fact that it is cheap! Your biggest outlay is going to be the bike but there are loads of second hand and charity shop options out there if you’d something a little cheaper. Then once you have your bike, all the other bits and pieces are relatively inexpensive. Lights and reflectors you can pick up in bargain shops, but do spend a little more to get a good bike lock! Aside from that, there are fuel costs and no road tax which are definite points in the favour of cycling.

So as you can see, it is definitely time to get on your bike!
